January 2003

eRealty, the nation's premier online residential real estate brokerage, announced today Northern Virginia's ten most popular ZIP codes searched by area home buyers on eRealty.com in 2002. They are:

  1. 22030 (Fairfax)
  2. 22201 (Arlington)
  3. 22031 (Fairfax)
  4. 22207 (Arlington)
  5. 22033 (Fairfax)
  6. 20191 (Herndon)
  7. 22101 (McLean)
  8. 22180 (Vienna)
  9. 22043 (Pimmit Hills)
  10. 22203 (Arlington)

"It's no surprise that Fairfax and Arlington top our list," said Ben Clark, market director for eRealty's DC Metro office in Vienna. "Both offer home buyers a high-quality lifestyle in very different settings. The McLean, Vienna, and Fairfax areas offer a high-quality lifestyle and some of the best schools in the county. Property values in the area continue to rise steadily due to their breathtaking landscapes, excellent highway infrastructure and easy access to D.C."

Clark said that the other ZIP codes in the Top Ten offer diverse higher- priced housing that appeals to buyers from the high-tech sector as well as white-collar government workers. "Homes are more expensive in these areas and they vary in style and age. Arlington is popular for its expensive condominiums and older homes on smaller lots while the sizable inventory of larger, single-family lots seem to appeal to different residents in Herndon."

The Ten Most Popular ZIP Codes Searched study is based upon the number of eRealty registered users who have saved a specific ZIP code within their home search criteria. According to the California Association of Realtors®, 41 percent of home buyers use the Internet as an information source in the real estate process.
